I am so busy at work, the little things keep me going...like my 10:00 tea break...

My son give me this cup.  It was made for him but he said pink was more my color than his.
Yes, that is a typewriter next to the my cup.  I use it at work to type forms.  Our 22 year old temp had never used one until I showed her how it works...her opinion...they are useless.

My favorite teas are...

I transport the tea in my 25 year old one cup thermos bottle. The inside is made of glass.  It keeps liquids hot all day, unlike the stainless steel you buy today.

My son and his boss brought me some grapefruit after work.  They said they had a hard time finding people who like grapefruit.  Lucky for them I love them.  I will probably juice them as they give me so many.

Dinner tonight...

Barbecue pork chop, potatoes, kale and a salad.

One day in the life of the mechanic...

The mechanic's shop dropped the engine, transmission and complete front end assembly and cradle in a Cadillac Hearse.  They had to separate the engine from the transmission to fix an oil pan leak.

The motor is on top, the transmission is on your left and the left strut is in front.

This was a 20 hour job... $2,000 bill.

Dinner tonight...one of our new favorite vegetables.  This is a organic Romanesco Cauliflower...the mechanic likes this better than traditional cauliflower. It doesn't have a strong odor when cooking and has a milder taste.

Romanesco cauliflower with mushrooms, beans, and onions over Couscous.  I added the last of the left over chicken used in making my stock last Sunday.  We have been lucky, one of the mechanic's customers keeps bringing us her home grown lettuce.

I saw a hawk this morning.  This one was not on the lake but in town.

Monday

Well, we did get our second freeze. I braved the cold this morning for these quick pictures.

This is a picture sent to me by my friend Barbara.  This picture was taken from her car after it had been warming up for ten minutes.  It's hard to believe this is Florida.

And the retired twin sent this picture of a hawk.

And his backyard at sunset.

I will end with dinner...

Snapper, mashed pumpkin with corn and a salad

Sunday is about getting ready for the coming week.

Saturday I spent the afternoon with my mother and baby brother.  My brother and I did our annual Office Depot shopping for tax season.  We love the store...we love office supplies!

Today was about laundry, cleaning and cooking...I made chicken stock.

So, dinner included the boiled chicken.

Chicken salad over lettuce and a baked potato.

Today has been cold.  Tonight we will get our second freeze.  I guess we will loose our banana plants. Cold, beautiful day at the pecan grove.

On my coffee break, I enjoyed reading the new issue of More magazine.

TGIF

This is the pecan grove after this morning's cold spell, in the evening.

and the lake...

Dinner tonight...The mechanic had this quick meal growing up... cheese dreams...

Bread, American cheese, tomatoes and bacon...I had a salad as I don't eat bacon.

The mechanic had his second shot out of five in his left eye. He had a broken blood vessel due to his stroke. His vision was effected, so he tolerates the shots.

And another  picture from the retired twin...

Happy Valentine Day!

The two of us after 39 years of Valentine Days together!

I looked for some words of wisdom on love and found the following paragraphs.

Relationship Expert – Stephanie Coontz

Be truly interested in your partner’s ideas and activities; take pride in their achievements; use endearments or offer tactile affection without being asked; have a sense of humor about differences; and never let irritation or anger slide into contempt.

Psychologist - John Gottmans, PhD

People need about five positive interactions for every negative one in an intimate relationship.  It’s less the occasional over-the-top gesture and more the regular, small deposits that count—a few words of appreciation, a loving touch, an expression of sexual attraction.  If we have trouble remembering to regularly express appreciation, we may do better by asking, “What would have been harder about this day if my partner wasn’t in my life?”

Alison Chabonals

While marriage as an institution is less powerful than it used to be, people have higher expectations of marriage as a relationship.  Precisely because most Americans no longer feel they have to marry, they are more specific about what they want from it.  When a marital relationship works today, it is fairer, more intimate, more mutually beneficial and less prone to violence than ever before.  Yet, individuals are less willing to stay in a relationship that doesn’t confer these benefits.

Successful marriages used to depend upon specialization.  Men and women couldn’t substitute for one another in accomplishing tasks.  A typical woman couldn’t support herself financially; a typical man didn’t know how to feed himself, do laundry or manage child-rearing.  Even if couples didn’t share many mutual interests, the partners often took pleasure in being indispensable.

Now women can support themselves and men cook and clean. Thus, shared interest and leisure activities, rather than specialized work roles, increasingly serve as the glue of marriage.  Play takes people off the work-centric treadmill and introduces novelty into the relationship.

Spending leisure time with others also produces higher levels of happiness than cocooning, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index.

I started my day getting an adjustment for my pinched nerve issue.

Then on to work to some goodies from the bosses...

And a great gift my grandson painted me arrived in the mail.

Then dinner of course...

The mechanic fried me some quail...

Fried quail with potatoes and a salad with beets.

And desert...

And if you are wondering if the twin is enjoying himself, this is the picture I received at 3:45 today while I was hard at Work.

 I am so jealous!
