Happy Halloween

The little people in my life...

Autumn
My daughter won 2nd place for her Bumble Bee costume at my grand-children's school!

 My small attempt at decoration...

For Halloween I wanted to watch something scary.  So...I watched PBS's Front-line...Hunting the nightmare Bacteria...It's about the growing threat of untreatable infections that spread in hospitals.  Now that will keep you up at night!

I will say good-bye to October...my favorite month...

Wednesday

This morning...
We are a house divided!  I like romain lettuce and the mechanic likes red leaf. So I bought some bibb lettuce, which happens to be my mother's favorite.

Dinner...Meatless Wednesday.
Portobello mushrooms stuffed with roasted tomatoes and eggplant; fried brown rice with veggies and a salad.
My food never looks like the recipe pictures.  The sides of the mushrooms fell after a few minutes under the broiler.  The recipe called for goat cheese, but it was meatless Wednesday so I substituted roasted eggplant.  The mechanic liked them, that's all that mattered.

My view from my office window this morning at FAR...our version of Fall
The Penta add color to the yard..
The Aloe...

My aunt Marcelle died last week.  She was 94 years old.  Out of 11 children there are only three sisters left.  My mother was the baby of the bunch. Below are my aunts Helene, Marcelle and Paulette. This picture was taken many years ago in Luneville, France, the town I was born in.
Dinner...
Grilled Lamb chop, garbanzo beans over brown rice and oven roasted plum tomatoes.
I roasted some plum tomatoes and an eggplant for our meatless dinner recipe tomorrow, but since the tomatoes smelled so good we ate a few. The mechanic likes to eat his artichoke for lunch.

While at the Mayo Clinic's waiting room awhile back, I read a copy of Martha's Stewart's Living magazine. I enjoyed the quality and all the healthy recipes that I now subscribe to it.  The first issue I received had an article on the blog STILL.  This woman (Mary Jo Hoffman) photographs one item from nature daily.  I love her pictures against a white background. Check it out for a treat.

And from people magazine my inspiration for dinner tonight.

My version...It was easy and the mechanic liked it. Since the weather has cooled down a tad bit, I am using the oven. One layer onion, one layer potatoes and chicken...bake for about one hour in an oven proof skillet.
Skillet chicken with potatoes, salad and Brussels sprouts.

Sunday

Foggy Sunday morning...

The morning after the big wedding...all is quiet.

My older brother who is a contractor up in Georgia came down to Florida with my nephew to pick up our no longer needed fireplace...we all are into recycling!
My brother was also delivering his birthday present to me.  October is not over...so I am still celebrating.  He refurbishes old fishing rods and mounts them on Pecky Cypress wood. It will be perfect over the new windows...only we think we need another one for the other window.
On his way to our house a deer ran between my nephew's truck and our neighbor's car.  The deer must not have looked where he was going because his antlers got stuck in a fence and he could not free himself.  The mechanic had to call Florida's Fish & Wildlife department to come set him free.

After that excitement we all went to visit my mom and baby brother.
 Dom...just chilling

I think they look like the real McCoys!
Dinner...
Flounder, kale and carrots over couscous and a salad.

Saturday

I got up early this morning as usual.

I love the reflection of the lake on the new windows.

I ate lunch watching the mechanic clean his new windows...again.
For the compost pile.

The rooster is from the Double F Ranch, where the mechanic grew up.

The neighbors had a 4 o'clock wedding for friends of theirs. It's 9:00 now and they are still partying.

Dinner...

Fried Alligator, scalloped potatoes, white acre peas and brussel sprouts.
